I was once in darkness

It’s like one day you wake up, and the world is dark, and you don’t know how it got that way. A yesterday ago, you were laughing and making memories with the ones you love, then suddenly, you look around and there is no one, just you. You and this uninvited darkness that you cannot seem to shake off because you are simply too weak. Too weak to get up in the morning, too weak to take a bath, and too weak to face the sun, because it is a sobering reminder of your present reality. You have become a weight to yourself, which you can no longer carry, not even out of bed.

I remember that day, and days, when my life was shattered glass beneath my feet, and I did not know how it became that way. I was no longer present. It was as though I had died, and a mere shell lived in my place - doing enough just to survive, not having the strength or hope to entertain the idea of living.

------------

When I say that God saved me, I mean that I was dead, and He gave me new life. I mean that when all my hope of even a glimmer of light was lost, He reignited my heart with faith and promise.

Jesus dying on the cross means more than merely being forgiven and saved from eternal wrath. In His sacrifice, He tore the veil, inviting us into a blessed fellowship with Him and the Almighty Father, and gifted us with the treasurable gifts of eternal joy, peace, and true life. He loves us, and if we, especially in our darkest seasons, embrace that truth, we will find ourselves experiencing life more abundantly, even beyond our imagination.

------------

I was dead, but now I live, and it is all because of the grace of Jesus Christ. I am no longer in darkness because the light of God has shone upon me.
